Summer is here which means families are traveling, so this is especially a great time to organize your summer apps for your kids. Better yet, mix it up entertainment with educational apps for summer learning. In my first post of my sponsored series about the Amazon Appstore, I explained how to use the Amazon Appstore and gave an example of a fun app we found called “Geometry Dash App”. Next I wanted to share information on Amazon Coins for purchasing apps and games.
What are Amazon Coins?
Amazon Coins are a virtual currency that can be used to buy apps and in-game items in the Amazon Appstore. You can purchase them in denominations of 500 ($50), 1000 and more. To give an example, the Geometry Dash App is $1.99 to purchase or 199 Amazon coins. 100 coins equals $1. Amazon Coins are redeemable for apps, games and in-app items on the Amazon Appstore.
Are there discounts?
You can save up to 25% on apps, games and in-app items by purchasing Amazon Coins. The more you buy, the larger the discount. Amazon also runs promotions where you can find more savings and even earn up to 30% Coins back from those same in-game purchases. When looking into how many Amazon Coins I should purchases to buy a few apps (including Geometry Dash), there was a promotion running that offered 5000 coins for $41.00 (18% off for $9 savings). I decided to start off with $500 in Coins that I received for a 5% discount ($4.75).
It was as easy as clicking the button next to “199 Amazon Coins” and then “Buy Now”.
All orders for regular and Amazon Coin purchases can be seen on the “order” page of the Amazon Account.
Where can you buy and use Amazon Coins?
You can use Amazon coins on Amazon.com, Android Devices through the Amazon Appstore and on Kindle Fires.
Tips for Parents:
As with any device, it is important to set up family rules beforehand and show them how to find the age appropriate apps. For example, for a family vacation that included travel we sat down together to choose what apps to load on their Kindle Fire. We also have a family rule that they need to do educational apps before entertainment apps. Amazon has a great selection of educational apps including spelling, drawing, phonics, language, puzzles, math practice, museum tours, fit brain games and even a TED Talk app!
