Kids are so busy these days with school and after school activities that free time is limited. Our family looks for free time activities that either involve outdoor activities for exercise or STEAM activities for them to experiment, learn and use their creativity in new ways. STEAM expands on science, tech and math to add the ever so important “arts” to help kids learn to innovate with their own ideas. So of course we were excited to hear that the STEAM Carnival is coming to San Francisco Nov 6-8, 2015. Here are the details:
“STEAM Carnival is a high-impact, high-voltage entertainment showcase fun for all ages. By adding art to the equation the focus shifts from STEM to STEAM, highlighting the creativity and innovation that comes from integrating art with science and technology. STEAM Carnival debuted in Los Angeles 2014 to over 13,000 attendees, and now comes to San Francisco November 6-8, 2015 at Pier 48 at AT&T Park, before launching a national traveling tour in 2016. At the carnival will be high-tech games, interactive installations, dynamic build zones, round the clock stage shows, lab demos, aerialists, artists, food, and more. The goal is to inspire more creative thinkers and doers with playful, meaningful, immersive experiences through STEAM. Come play! Purchase tickets at www.steamcarnival.com.”

My son is not much for building, but has been recently motivated by a new obsession with filming and editing “trick shots”. He sets up paths for a ball to roll down or obstacles for the ball to be thrown through and into a basket/bucket. When he starts using around-the-house objects for his trick shot set ups, I’m thrilled. Would love to go to this event!
This week my kids and I are enjoying the STEAM project of making their Halloween costumes!
cool! this looks awesome! we’d love to go!
For us – it’s all about sports and the physics and body health required to be the athletes they aspire to be.
